Synopsis

Local crime lord Ada Tither has a job. Once an operator out of Fairpark, things went south for her syndicate when a route was found between the East and West Jordan and the APCA and Lions turned Fairpark into the biggest turf war Salt Lake has ever seen. But people like Tither don't take kindly to losing control. She's put out a lucrative—very lucrative—for people capable of doing a job for her.

Plot

A job comes to the attention of five individuals of varied backgrounds. Bertram, Jook, Lix Tetrax, Rhonda Wallace, and Thunderbird met with a career jobber in the local criminal element: Jaxx. He threw his cap in with Ada Tither, and made an introduction to the party.

The ask wasn't simple. Tither wanted information on a secure munitions depot run by the Bureau of Domestic Logistics. Only one person had the information she needed. Adrian Adelric, a mid-50s middle-manager in the APCA in charge of Alpha Munitions in the Ballpark. The kicker that makes the task so difficult? Adelric had to spill his guts without him or anyone else in the APCA knowing.

A subtle touch like that needs a Soft Hands, and Tither (and Jaxx) knew just the man for the job. Sebastian Silverton, better known as 'Seb' to his friends, was a masterfully skilled Soft Hands with a penchant for getting into trouble on behalf of his friends. Tither seemed like she couldn't care less whether he lived or died, just that he might be useful to put to task. Her underling Jaxx on the other hand, held some lingering affection for 'Seb', and offered each member of the party a favor if they could help him out.

'Seb' was kidnapped by a low-time gang led by a contractor calling themselves the Doers, stationed out of a never-opened home improvement store. Of course, it was here the party learned that Betram apparently knows everyone in town, Jaxx slept with the contractor's wife, and evidently his contract was themed entirely around manipulating home improvement objects. Still, the party managed to acquire 'Seb', making a plan to meet at Bertram's bar.

Following this, they infiltrated the Sorenson Multi-Cultural Center, learning the gang has a running deal with the APCA. They get to deal out their poison and remain untouched, and the APCA gets to use their services liberally. The group manages to kill Mr. Sorenson, get Seb in close quarters with Adrian Adelric and get the information back to Ada with a well executed plan...

Only to be betrayed by the gang leader. Ada executes Liz for an earlier insult to her person, and kidnaps Bertram, intending to kill him and use him as a patsy to cause a war between the Sorensons and the APCA. What results is the remaining party members escaping and turning this gang war in their favor.

Siler, a man captured after supposedly reading Thunderbird's mind, ingratiates himself to the party—though he is not what he seems. Raul, a fellow Shadow of Jook's, blows up the Alpha Munitions Depot, leaving Tither with nothing as the rain returns to Salt Lake City and her dreams and ambitions go up in smoke.

The party has made an enemy, one that may follow them farther than they think.
