The 50s
If there was anyone trying to hold it together and keep you safe, it would be the 50s. On Temple Avenue sits Salt Lake Temple, where the Jordan splits and first flooded. Thousands disappeared into the Stream as it advanced. The Police Station was completely consumed. In the wake of lost family, friends, professionals, clean water and fuel, the 50s came up to help.
Overview
The 50s is composed of first responders, former SLCPD, altruists, the headstrong, and those who lost their loved ones fighting to save what’s left of SLC. The few Mormons left in smaller temples dedicated their holy places to outreach. Conversion fell on the backburner as the city needed to be saved in a far different manner. Operating out of the Grand America Hotel, these ones do what they can.
When the Lions broke through, they came through Downtown and started their war with the APCA, which the 50s were trying to perform damage control for. The 50s are always spread thin, understaffed, and working against a crisis. The high stress environment causes burnout fast, and lifers in the 50s have the special kind of grit that could have them survive anything from the Bonneville Salt Flats to souped-up violent 80s hipster samurai pouring out of Glendale.
Most technological advances have ceased in the face of the onset of the large amount of powers and lack of resources, but the few advancements in automobiles, medical technology, etc., that do occasionally crop come from the 50s extensive Labor Union: a protected group of craftsmen, skilled artisans, and pioneers.

Philosophy & Goals
What is the faction's core belief or mission? What are their long-term goals, and how do they go about achieving them?
Philosophy
The 50s believe in the old order of things and want to re-establish ideas of democracy and regain a foothold in the city. While this is what they claim, they are focused on disaster control and community outreach. Winning the war isn't worth losing your soul.
Short-term
🪐 Re-establish protection of workers' rights in SLC.
🪐 Equalize the distribution of food and medicine, and repair the power grid.
🪐 Quash down gang violence and bring a semblance of order to the East Jordan.
🪐 Bring the APCA and Lions to the negotiating table and prevent more pointless deaths.
Long-term
🪐 Return Salt Lake City to what it was before the Flood.
🪐 Never let another Flood happen.
Organizational Structure
Describe how the faction is organized. How are they structured? Is it hierarchical or decentralized?
- Hierarchy: The 50s are composed of 3 branches, though none of them report to one another and their relationship is more that of partners than leaders.
🏛️50s. Volunteer group providing emergency relief in the wake of contractors, border disputes between factions, or a rogue Spirit.
👤 Ammon Helaman was a first responder during the Flood, and has never stopped organizing volunteers to help since. He is the de-facto leader.
🏛️ SLCPD. Former police force for the city trying to keep order in Downtown with far less resources than they once had and adhering to laws that died with the Flood.
👤 Chief Earl R. "Red" Smith focused on community-oriented policing and it made his leadership ideal for SLCPD in a time where resources were thin and community support was essential.
🏛️ Labor Union. Focused on improving the abysmal working conditions of people in Spirit City.
Key Resource & Technology
What resources, technology, or magic does the faction rely on? Any special items or powers they wield?
- The SLCPD has an old stockpile of weapons and an armory commissioned by Red's predecessor.
Notable Events
Any major events or plot points that have involved the faction. This could be past successes, failures, or moments that shaped their current state.
- The Flood. (May 16th, 1989) The East Jordan is thrown into chaos, with the majority of city's leadership occupying downtown and the East side. 50 city blocks are submerged in the Stream.
- Rescue and Recovery. (May 16th, 1989) Over 500 first responders dive into the Stream and are all lost as they try to rescue the people of the lost 50 city blocks.
- The Death of Order. (May 17th, 1989) 432 Officers are organized along with 105 citizen volunteers to enter the Stream under Chief Earl R. Smith's orders. None of them return. SLCPD is left a fraction of its former size.
- The 50s. (May 20th, 1989) Volunteers from all walks come together to support the victims of the Flood, which damn near included all of Salt Lake City. These efforts will never stop.
- Beginning of the End. (June 1st, 1990) The APCA is established under Senator Frank Moss, and the remaining first responders among SLCPD and the 50s work with this 'volunteer' group.
- Spiral. (June 1st, 1990-Present) The APCA dominion over the East Jordan has slowly tightened, with the 50s too busy trying to save what's left of the city to notice how long the rope around their neck has become.
