Flensing Oil
Oil drained from the flensed flesh of a chorus whale. Has soothing effects.
The lamplights kept on the trawling ships were kept alight with this oil and could only be put out by a special song. Able to burn near indefinitely, missionaries tending to the lamps would stare into the light. Often for so long, they would forget their own needs to the point of expiry.
Others who gazed upon the light were transformed entirely, becoming creatures affixed to its strange properties and ensuring it never stopped burning.
