The petrified child used as a protective fetish was the victim of the insipid plague that tore through Chronicle in its damnation. The fortunate few seemingly spared were crafted this specialized armor and tasked with the macabre task of excising the disease– by whatever means necessary.
Though resistant, the armor ultimately could not stop transmission.
